Prayer and Meditation
Meditation in the Chapel of the St. Josef’s Sisters
Every second Wednesday (in weeks with even numbers) you are invited for an hour’s meditation starting at 19:30 in the St. Josef’s Sisters’ chapel, Ryesgade 28, 5th floor.
We start the meditation with a hymn, meditate on the Bible, and finish sharing a thought or prayer with each other.
After the meditation there will be a cup of tea and time for a chat.
If you want to take part, you are welcome, but you can also call for further information.

| International prayer group
We hereby inform you that there is an English-speaking group in our parish which meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the oratory for the celebration of the Eucharist, prayer and faith-sharing talks. The group aims primarily at English-speakers in our parish, but it is not limited to them.

| St. Knud’s Senior Club starts again in September
We have a new sister in our parish, sr. Maria, who is ready to help us restart the club. As usual, meetings are held in the parish hall, the 1st time on Tuesday the 21st at 2.30 p.m. Some former members have promised to help. I therefore ask al of 65+ years of age to join in on the 21st, where sr. Maria will present herself and her plans for the club.

| Thoughts about the future of St. Knud’s Club
I look forward to helping in the club. But since I’ve only lived in Århus for just three months, I am not yet familiar with activities in town worth visiting. Therefore, we’ll must plan together. All suggestions are welcome and into the bargain they keep us active.
I suggest the following ideas:
- We can sing together (with help from an instructor, maybe).
- We can read and discuss an interesting book.
- We can do a picture meditation.
- We can report from a trip and many other things.
Let us use every single day in our lives. Welcome to the 1st meeting on the 21st of September in the parish hall.
Sr. Maria

Do you need Faith and Light?
What is Faith and Light? It is the title for a worldwide fellowship the aim of which it is to create good possibilities especially for mentally retarded people, so they can develop religiously and mentally.
Faith and Light tries to establish a strong fellowship between mentally retarded people, their families and friends. There is focus on the retarded people and the fellowship builds upon their presuppositions. The fellowship is ecumenical, and here in Denmark we have established contacts with the Folk Church and other Christian churches. Also in Norway and Sweden ecumenical community is strong.
The basic idea behind Faith and Light is that God in a special way is close to the ‘smallest’ and the ‘weakest’ and that God reveals his love through them. We experience in our services and in other contexts that the retarded in often unforeseeable ways open us up for each other. What is essential for us as human beings is revealed all stiff rituals, habits and prejudices dwindle. To be becomes the most important thing.
In Århus we have a small group of ten members, in Copenhagen there are ca. fifty members in two groups. There are also dormant members, who come along from time to time or support us financially.
We would like to have a bigger group in Århus, because we think we have something to offer, and we also think that there is a need in the area of eastern Jutland. There are families with retarded children or grown-ups, who would profit from our services and our fellowship. We adapt our services and fellowship to those present.
Retarded people can feel that is good to be together and that they can contribute something positive to the fellowship.
Apart from the monthly gatherings on the 2nd Saturday the Faith and Light groups in Denmark meet on the fourth Friday after Easter for a spiritual renewal and a feast. During the summer it is also possible to take part in a Scandinavian retreat, where it is possible to discuss a theme more profoundly and to strengthen our fellowship. This is usually a highly enriching week.
I hope that this creates some interest in Faith and Light. If you are interested in taking part in our group, simply come to our meeting or contact us at the above addresses.

| Greetings from Fr. Herbert
In our parish there are many good and well-considered initiatives under way in different areas. This is a joyful development. It shows that ours is a living parish. It is living because its members are willing to get involved and because there is a number of contributors who are willing to take on duties in the parish.
We have said farewell to Pawel Ben, SJ, who has spent almost two years with us and is now back in Poland, in Warsaw, to finish his theological studies. In his palce we got Marcin Jarecki, SJ. His first obligation is to learn Danish. Mate Rada came to us as a trainee already in the spring. He helps in many contexts in the parish.
Because of bad health sister Dominika, CSJ, has left us. She moved to Strandvejen in Copenhagen. Instead sister Maria Marchura, CSJ, has moved here, and she immediately informed us about her willingness to help in the parish. She is going to help re-establish St. Knud’s Senior Club and assist by visiting elderly people. Wonderful!
Thanks for good cooperation to sr. Dominika and to Pawel Ben. A hearty welcome to sr. Maria, Marcin and Mate and may God grant them his rich blessing.
Fr. Herbert

| You are needed!
In the church there are many responsibilities. Maybe you sit and want to do something, but you don’t know how it can be done. Who to ask and where are you needed?
What precisely is it you would like to help with in our parish?
We mention a couple of areas, where we need help from parishioners:
The Catholic Info-shop
Visiting friends
Self-help groups in the Church
Caritas
Catechesis for people who want to convert to Catholicism.
These areas cover a wide range of jobs, but you could also think of helping with preparing church coffee on Sundays or invigilating the church on weekdays. Our appeal to you is, that understand that our parish would thrive even better, if you could convince yourself, that there is one or the other area, where you could help!
If you get an idea as to where you could help, please contact
Fr. Herbert (8739 7042 ) or Ida Wæde (Parish Council Chair, 8687 5544). |
